Included Markers
1 markersA blood test that measures the level of Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) in your blood. PSA is a protein produced by the prostate gland, and measuring it can contribute to awareness of prostate health.
Why this test?
PSA is a protein naturally produced by the prostate. Its level in the blood can vary for many reasons, including age, prostate size, and other factors. Measuring PSA provides a data point that, together with other information, may contribute to a broader picture of prostate health.
Who is this test for?
This test may be relevant for men who are interested in gaining insight into their PSA level. It can be useful for those who wish to have a measured value to discuss with their doctor, or for men whose healthcare provider has suggested checking PSA.
What is tested?
- PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) (ug/l): a protein produced by the prostate gland. The level in the blood is measured from a standard blood sample.
What can this test tell you?
The result shows your PSA level at the time of the blood draw. PSA levels can be influenced by many factors, including age, prostate size, recent physical activity, and other causes. A single PSA value on its own does not provide a diagnosis; it is one piece of information that can be discussed with your doctor.
How is the sample collected?
A blood sample is drawn at a certified sample point (afnamepunt). There are over 750 locations across the Netherlands. After placing your order, you can select a location and time that suits you.
When is this test useful?
This test may be useful when you want a measured PSA value to share with your doctor, or when you are curious about this marker as part of a broader interest in your health.
What do the results mean?
Your PSA result is presented with a reference range. Values can vary between individuals and can be influenced by several factors. A healthcare provider can help you understand what your result may mean in the context of your personal health and medical history.
Preparation
No ejaculation in the 48 hours before the test is recommended, as this may temporarily affect PSA levels. Avoid intense cycling in the 48 hours before the blood draw for the same reason.
What happens after the results?
Your result is available in your personal dashboard. If you have questions about the value, or if you would like to discuss it further, sharing the result with your doctor is recommended.

What We Test
This health panel includes 1 biomarkers to give you a clear picture of your health.
PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) is a protein produced by prostate gland cells. PSA is naturally present in men at low levels, and many factors — including benign prostate enlargement (BPH), prostatitis, vigorous exercise, and sexual activity — can raise PSA levels without any malignant cause. Results must always be interpreted by a qualified healthcare provider.

Tumor MarkersPSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) is a protein produced by prostate gland cells. Results must always be interpreted by a qualified healthcare provider.
PSA monitoring is widely used for prostate health assessment. Tracking PSA velocity (rate of change) over time provides important information. Because PSA rises with age and is influenced by many benign factors, a single result is rarely definitive. Always consult a healthcare provider for interpretation.
Related biomarkers
Biomarkers often explored alongside this test for a fuller picture.
AFP (Alpha-Fetoprotein)
An AFP (Alpha-Fetoprotein) test is a gentle yet important part of age-appropriate health monitoring. As we age, regular screening of liver health markers like AFP becomes increasingly valuable. This test can support early detection when combined with other clinical assessments. This test alone cannot diagnose cancer and should always be discussed with your healthcare provider.
CA 15-3
CA 15-3 is a protein associated with breast tissue. For older adults, monitoring markers such as CA 15-3 alongside a comprehensive health assessment can be a valuable part of proactive ageing. Elevated levels are often caused by benign conditions.
CA 19-9
CA 19-9 is a gastrointestinal marker that can be monitored as part of a comprehensive health assessment for older adults. As we age, the risk of gastrointestinal conditions increases, making periodic monitoring a sensible part of proactive health management.
CA 72-4
CA 72-4 is a gastric marker that can be monitored as part of a comprehensive health assessment for older adults. The risk of gastric conditions increases with age.
CA-125
A CA-125 test is a gentle yet valuable part of age-appropriate health monitoring. As we age, working closely with your healthcare provider to understand markers like CA-125 supports a proactive approach to your well-being. Elevated levels can have many explanations, and this test is most meaningful when combined with regular check-ups and other clinical assessments. This test alone cannot diagnose cancer and should always be discussed with your healthcare provider.
CEA (Carcinoembryonic Antigen)
CEA is a broad tumor marker that can be monitored as part of a comprehensive health assessment for older adults. The risk of colorectal and other conditions increases with age, making periodic monitoring a practical part of proactive ageing.
