Included Markers
2 markersA focused panel measuring Fasting Glucose and HbA1c. Together, these two markers provide insight into your current blood sugar level and your average blood sugar over the past two to three months.
Why this test?
Blood sugar regulation is an aspect of health that many people are curious about, particularly with increasing awareness of metabolic health. Fasting Glucose shows your blood sugar at the moment of the test, while HbA1c reflects a longer-term average. Together they provide a more complete picture than either marker alone.
Who is this test for?
This test may be relevant for adults who want insight into their blood sugar levels, for example those with a family history of diabetes, those who have made dietary changes and are curious about the effect, or anyone whose healthcare provider has suggested checking these values.
What is tested?
- Glucose (Fasting): the level of sugar in your blood after a period of fasting. Measured from a blood sample taken on an empty stomach.
- HbA1c: glycated haemoglobin, which reflects your average blood sugar level over the past 2 to 3 months. Unlike fasting glucose, HbA1c is not affected by what you ate or drank the day before.
What can this test tell you?
The results may indicate whether your blood sugar regulation falls within expected ranges. Fasting glucose provides a point-in-time value, while HbA1c shows a trend. If both values are within the reference range, it may suggest that blood sugar regulation is functioning as expected. Values outside the range may warrant a conversation with your healthcare provider.
How is the sample collected?
A blood sample is drawn at a certified sample point (afnamepunt). There are over 750 locations across the Netherlands. After placing your order, you can select a location and time that suits you.
When is this test useful?
This test may be useful when you want a straightforward look at your blood sugar levels, for example as part of a general health check or when curiosity about metabolic health arises.
What do the results mean?
Results are presented with reference ranges. Fasting glucose can fluctuate based on recent meals, stress, and sleep, while HbA1c is more stable. Your healthcare provider can help interpret the results in the context of your lifestyle and medical history.
Preparation
Fasting for 8 to 12 hours is required for an accurate fasting glucose result. HbA1c does not require fasting, but since both are measured from the same blood sample, fasting is needed for this panel.
What happens after the results?
Your results are available in your personal dashboard. If you have questions about the values, or if any results fall outside the reference range, discussing them with your healthcare provider is recommended.

What We Test
This health panel includes 2 biomarkers to give you a clear picture of your health.
HbA1c (glycated haemoglobin) reflects your average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months. It is the gold standard for long-term blood sugar monitoring and diabetes management.
Learn moreGlucose is the primary energy source for your body. Your fasting glucose level (measured after at least eight hours of fasting) indicates how well your body can regulate blood sugar. An elevated fasting glucose can indicate prediabetes or type 2 diabetes, while a low value (hypoglycaemia) can cause symptoms such as trembling, sweating, and difficulty concentrating.

MetabolicHbA1c (glycated haemoglobin) reflects your average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months. It is the gold standard for long-term blood sugar monitoring and diabetes management.
HbA1c provides a long-term view of blood sugar control, unlike fasting glucose which reflects a single point in time. It is essential for diabetes diagnosis and management. Consult your healthcare provider.
Glucose (Fasting)
MetabolicGlucose is the primary energy source for your body.
Type 2 diabetes affects more than one million people in the Netherlands, and an estimated 1.1 million more have prediabetes without knowing it. Untreated, diabetes significantly increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, kidney damage, eye problems, and nerve damage. Prediabetes is a reversible stage. With lifestyle adjustments — weight loss, more exercise, less sugar and processed carbohydrates — more than half of people with prediabetes can prevent developing diabetes. This makes early detection through a fasting glucose test or HbA1c very valuable.
